Matthew Haydon
My name is Matthew Haydon, I am eight years old. I’m walking for David Fisher who was eight when he walked with the Oscar O. Stoddard Company. I chose David Fisher because he was close to my age. I don’t really want to go on this trek, because I will have to walk a lot and my legs will get sore.
I like sports. I also like art and building things.

You’re doing it Matt! Is it as bad as you thought it would be so far? I am just so impressed with your endurance! Mom says that you like to walk most of the time! Way to go buddy! I’m sure Brandon really misses you like I do; as well as Buddy and Sadie, but we are all so happy for you to have this once in a lifetime experience. So, when we miss you really bad, we just try to think of all of the good things that are coming through this experience and it makes us feel better. Heavenly Father is also giving us peace, and comfort through the Holy Ghost. We are so blessed to have the Holy Ghost, aren’t we?
I love you Matt.
Love,
Sis. Corbin

Hi Matthew you have a lot of spunk to keep up the walking even when you don’t want to do it. Keep looking for interesting things along the way, but don’t touch any skunks or we will smell you all the way in Australia. Look after each other.

Hi ya Matt,
How are your legs doing. I notice in your opening comments that you love sports. Did you know that this trek is going to make your legs so strong that your going to outdo a lot of your friends by the time your done with your trek. Your going to be so glade after this is all done for all you’ve done and how strong it will make you. Have fun each and every day. Grandpa

Hi Matt! How’s my buddy? We are all doing really good over here (besides that we miss you, of course). We see Rachel mow your lawn and I picture you all out there playing ball. Your dad tells us that you got to play soccer along the trail the other day. That probably made the time go by a bit faster, huh? Have you seen any snakes yet? I heard that you could hear some, but didn’t see them. Well, we have snakes here too! Probably not the same kind though, huh? Hope you are keeping up the good work! Brandon enjoyed his visit with you all…he said you are all doing great! Love,
Sis. Corbin

Matt,
This is Austin. Do you have a person in your school that is name Eliza and she knows you?
I miss playing football with Sam and you. There is no one to play it with while you are gone. Is it hard pushing the handcart? Your mum says I need to start building my muscles, is it true?
See you later.

Matthew – This is Ann Packard, BYU reporter covering your story now! Just wanted to ask you a few questions – and hope you can reply by Tuesday night – or sometime during the week would be fantastic!
1. What did you get to do to help get ready for this trek?
2. What could you have done before you left, that would have made the trip easier?
3. What advice would you give someone who wants to take a “handcart” trip?
For next weeks article, I would like to focus on the “celebrations” that your company have experienced, such as birthdays along the way, Samuel’s ordination, the half-way point, arriving in Martin’s Cove, 4th of July and any other celebrations that you feel are newsworthy!
Look forward to hearing back from you.
