Joshua Haydon
My name is Josh Haydon. I am nine years old and I am walking for Samuel Parkinson age nine, who came with the Daniel Robison Company. I chose to walk for him because he is nine years old. I want to go on the trek because I want to feel what the pioneers felt.
I like sport.

Day 9. 129 miles.
Today was long and tiring, but it was better than yesterday because it didn’t rain. We were rained on all yesterday and last night, but quickly dried out today. We walked to Fullerton, Nebraska.
I love sleeping at the end of the day and hate waking up at 5:15 every morning. Dad let us sleep in until 7 this morning so that when we had to put our wet walking clothes back on, at least the sun would already be up.
Even though it’s hot and tiring out here, I’m having fun. There’s a lot of interesting things along the road, like dead raccoons. Walking is a lot more fun when Mikey is in the handcart. He walks over and hugs me while I’m pushing and tells me to get in the handcart with him. I wish!
The truckies all honk to say hello to us and people stop all the time to talk to us. Most people are nice, but one person threw a beer can at us.

Good on you, Josh. I loved reading your message today. I am glad you are meeting lots of nice people. I love all the things you notice when you are walking too. Bet that raccoon was smelly! Make sure you give your Mum lots of love like Mikey gives you. Bit hard being the only girl amongst all you blokes! Remember that the pioneer children sang as they walked, and walked, and walked. Have you got to the singing stage yet or are you still just getting the days walk over and done with? Have fun tomorrow!

Wow. It sounds like you’ve been having an interesting time. That’s kinda sad how someone threw a beer bottle at you. i’m sorry! 😦 if you wash your face with cold water and slap it, it helps you get up in the morning (Seriously, I’ve tried it) Have fun!

I love this picture of you Josh…
I just wanted to say hi, and thanks for being Conner’s twin. Love your squishy noses, and sweetness. But, most of all, I’m grateful that you two are hard workers and always want to do what’s right. I’m very proud of you boys, and wish you the VERY best!
Love,

Hi Josh!
Hello from Provo! I got to lead the music in Primary for the last two weeks and missed you there. We were practicing Father’s Day songs. Father’s Day is June 20th this year. Are you all going to do something special for your dad? I would love to hear your plans, but then it wouldn’t be a surprise, so I’ll just have to hear about it after you do it!
Hope you’re enjoying all the swimming and “hanging out with all of the boys”. What a great experience for you all! Give Conner and Brett a hug for me, okay?
Thanks Josh,
Michelle

today was an interesting day because it was very fast because some one threw a jar at us and glass went everywhere. justin was hit but lucky not cut then we went swimming and we swam out to these trees. me and sam swam back but justin and conner stayed. justin went to jump to a tree and when he looked down there was a rattle snake, but conner did not believe him until he saw it then they swam back. then justin went to tell my dad then the rattler cam swimming after us so we ran away. that was the most scariest thing of my life

AHHHHHHHH! Rattle-snake stalker! don’t get any night mares from that! You need all the sleep you can get! If that was me,I would freak out so much! Then again, I have been about a yard away from a bear that was not in a cage…(and I didn’t get any bad dreams from it!)

That must have been scary for you guys but seeing a rattle snake is something to remember hey! Kody and Jayden wanted you to know that Geelong won by heaps the other day against Essendon. It was about 11 goals woo hoo. And we would sleep as well after walking and pushing all day. We loved the photo where all you boys are asleep on each other. Very funny. Kody says it would have been better if the rattlesnake was nice and was trying to make friends lol.
Riley says that would be great to be out there with you and to see a raccoon and some of the other animals we have never seen before.
Jayden wishes he was there with you now. It is always more fun to do these things together.
Kieara and Blake send you love and kisses.
All the boys had number 1 haircuts the other day. Are you ready for a cut yet?

Josh – This is Ann Packard, BYU reporter covering your story now! Just wanted to ask you a few questions – and hope you can reply by Tuesday night – or sometime during the week would be fantastic!
!
1. What did you get to do to help get ready for this trek?
2. What could you have done before you left, that would have made the trip easier?
3. What advice would you give someone who wants to take a “handcart” trip?
For next weeks article, I would like to focus on the “celebrations” that your company have experienced, such as birthdays along the way, Samuel’s ordination, the half-way point, arriving in Martin’s Cove, 4th of July and any other celebrations that you feel are newsworthy!
Look forward to hearing back from you.

1.I helped plan what jobs needed to be done and put my name down for the things I wanted to do.Went to DI and chose my clothes to wear.Chose my pioneer name – Samuel Parkinson and tried to find infomation on his life.Participated in trek meetings on Sunday every week for about 7 weeks before we left.
2.
3.Don’t stand up in the cart.Don’t put your hand in the wheel.Bring lots of food and water. Have strength – be fit.It will be long and hard.Play games.
We just had our 1000 miles celebration and that was great with lots of treats. We had a birthday party for Thomas Gibson(Conners pioneer),crossing the Nebraska – Wyoming border was cool.
